In 1978 Elsevier merged with Dutch newspaper publisher NDU, and devised a strategy to broadcast textual news to people's television sets through Viewdata and Teletext technology. As the first and only company in the world that employed a database for the production of journals, it introduced computer technology to Elsevier. In 1971 the firm acquired Excerpta Medica, a small medical abstract publisher based in Amsterdam. In 1947, Elsevier began publishing its first English-language journal, Biochimica et Biophysica Acta. When the Nazis occupied the Netherlands for the duration of five years from May 1940, he had just founded a second international office, the Elsevier Publishing Company Inc. in London to distribute these academic titles in the British Commonwealth (except Canada). In May 1939 Klautz established the Elsevier Publishing Company Ltd. The weekly was a continuation, as is stated in its first issue, of the monthly Elsevier, which was founded in 1891 to promote the name of the publishing house and had to stop publication in December 1940 because of the German occupation of the Netherlands. The weekly was an instant success and very profitable. The expansion of Elsevier in the scientific field after 1945 was funded with the profits of the newsweekly Elsevier, which published its first issue on 27 October 1945. According to Elsevier, this logo represents "the symbiotic relationship between publisher and scholar". As a company logo, Elsevier used the Elzevir family's printer's mark, a tree entwined with a vine and the words Non Solus, which is Latin for "not alone". The Elzevir family operated as booksellers and publishers in the Netherlands the founder, Lodewijk Elzevir (1542–1617), lived in Leiden and established that business in 1580. The original seal of the Elsevier family is used by Elsevier company as its logo.Įlsevier was founded in 1880 and adopted the name and logo from the Dutch publishing house Elzevir that was an inspiration and has no connection to the contemporary Elsevier. Much of the research that Elsevier publishes is publicly funded its high costs have led to accusations of rent-seeking, boycotts, and the rise of alternate avenues for publication and access, such as preprint servers and shadow libraries. The company earned £942 million in profit with an adjusted operating margin of 37% in 2018. Researchers have criticized Elsevier for its high profit margins and copyright practices. According to RELX reports, in 2021 Elsevier published more than 600,000 articles annually in over 2,700 journals as of 2018 its archives contained over 17 million documents and 40,000 e-books, with over one billion annual downloads. Įlsevier is part of the RELX Group (known until 2015 as Reed Elsevier), a publicly traded company. Elsevier's products and services also include digital tools for data management, instruction, research analytics and assessment. Its products include journals such as The Lancet, Cell, the ScienceDirect collection of electronic journals, Trends, the Current Opinion series, the online citation database Scopus, the SciVal tool for measuring research performance, the ClinicalKey search engine for clinicians, and the ClinicalPath evidence-based cancer care service. 4/3/2023 0 Comments Tradutor google chromeYou’ll come across unfamiliar languages every now and then so it’s better to have this tool easily accessible with just the help of your mouse cursor. Overall, Google Translate for Chrome is a great utility program to have whenever you’re surfing online. Due to this, the detected language will also sometimes be incorrect. Similar to the original service, this tool also has a hard time with romanized languages, wherein different writing systems are converted into Roman or Latin scripts so their pronunciations are clear. You can even activate this by right-clicking after highlighting, and then choosing “Google Translate.” This is handy because sometimes, the icon doesn’t even pop up-especially when the word is next to punctuations or the extension doesn’t consider it to be in a different language. You can also click on the main extension icon at the search bar to translate the whole webpage. You can also click “Extension Options” to set your preferred language and choose what the pop-ups should do when you highlight something, and “More” to open a new tab for the Translate website. Underneath it is the highlighted text, and then your default language and the translation for it-both with their pronunciations that you can listen to. This box will contain the detected language in a drop-down menu. Click on it and a small box will appear, showing you the translation. Simply highlight what you need and Translate’s icon will pop up where your cursor is. You don’t have to open up a new tab for the service, as the extension immediately works when you highlight the text. Unlike the original Google Translate, this extension is designed for processing unfamiliar languages quickly while you’re browsing online. In this browser extension, however, things just stay closer to the typed text. How do I use Google Translate on my browser? However, its most advanced features are the camera scanning, which will take a photo and scan the visible text there and the speech recognition, which will translate your recorded voice to the selected language. You can also do freehand writing-the tool will scan your written characters for familiar symbols on its database to parse your handwriting. You can do the old-fashioned way of typing in the words or copy-pasting it to the translation box. The program allows you to input text any way you want. 4/3/2023 0 Comments The sims medieval family crestAnd last, having placed the "modern" SimNation in The Sims Medival world means that has many old or even ancient cities (Yacothia is already an ancient city in The Sims Medival lore) near the newer, so having a medival walled city near modern city isn't a problem for me. That's why I put the three Mediterranean cities there. Second also in the original that area is coloured with a yellowish green, that suggested me a warmer climate. About Monte Vista you have made a good point, but there's some reason if I choose to put that city here and near Del Sol Valley and Starlight Shores: first that region in The Sims Medival is described being all about cooking and eating, so for stereotype I associate the Italian city with that region. On Starlight Shores, I didn't have Showtime, so for knowing the geography of that city I used som photo and a couple of gameplay, and I noticed it has a beach. I wanted to place it in the map because is one of the my favorite cities and because I wanted to show that the drained sea of Oasis Landing is actually a lake (in original Sims Medival Map in that corner there's an huge lake). Obviously Oasis Landing in this map isn't in his futuristic version. If I missed some cities is all their fault LoL SPECIAL THANKS to The Sims Wiki that has information from all the cities with juicy information I found really useful for placing the cities. Thats why they have that decorated border. Grant Welling of the Pacific Crest Group support services company points out that. So I placed them in the map like they are micro states like San Marino or Singapore. 30PM icknield way, letchworth matching family dinosaur swimsuits. NB: Hidden Springs and San Mayshuno aren't part of SimNation (the first because is a monarchy, the second because also if is a republic has a different government that SimNation), but still really close to SimNation. But in general I'm really satisfied with how the map came out and I wanted to share it with other simmers. Unfortunately I don't think I reached that because many sea cities in the map has become cities on major river and lakes and cities with warm climate are on the same latitude of other cold cities. The hard part was creating coherent region with cities with similar climate and theme. Obviously this is not ad absolute truth because everyone has is own idea about how SimNation look. I needed literally months for made this because was always insecure about how actually good was the map, but now I could say that the map is perfect. 4/3/2023 0 Comments Light blue heelsThe mid heel on this sandal makes it easy to stay on your feet for hours at a time, while the pearl and rhinestone straps add a touch of sparkle.
